The Albanese Government is delivering significant climate infrastructure and support to Pacific nations through targeted partnerships, with a focus on renewable energy, adaptation, and community resilience.
The Pacific region faces existential threats from climate change, with Prime Minister Albanese acknowledging it as "the single greatest threat to the livelihoods, security and wellbeing of people in the Pacific."
The Pacific Climate Infrastructure Financing Partnership (PCIFP) represents a major commitment of $350 million for climate infrastructure in the region. The initiative focuses on three key areas: mitigation through renewable energy projects, adaptation through infrastructure like flood protection and coastal reinforcement, and resilience building across all infrastructure projects. A significant component includes $75 million dedicated to off-grid and community-scale renewable energy in remote Pacific communities, with 20 projects already announced targeting local needs.
