The Albanese Government is investing $468.7 million to strengthen the NDIS by tackling fraud and improving services for people with disability.

The Labor Government has committed significant funding to address concerns about the NDIS's sustainability and ongoing viability through a comprehensive reform package. This includes $213.8 million to fight fraud and co-design reforms with people with disability, ensuring that every dollar allocated to NDIS participants reaches them. Since establishing the Fraud Fusion Taskforce in late 2022, the government has investigated over $1 billion in NDIS payments, initiated 500 compliance matters, 222 investigations, and 20 prosecutions.

In February 2024, the government announced an initial $83.9 million to improve NDIS integrity, followed by an additional $110.4 million in November 2024 to enhance fraud detection and prevention systems. These measures have already identified over 2,100 providers with problematic claiming behaviours and prevented more than $400 million from being diverted away from genuine participants.

To further strengthen the Scheme, the government is introducing the "Getting the NDIS Back on Track" legislation to clarify eligibility pathways, better define appropriate supports, and establish an NDIS Evidence Advisory Committee ($45.5 million) to provide independent advice on the suitability of supports for funding. The Bill also allocates $20 million for preliminary consultation on helping people with disability navigate services and $5.3 million to reform NDIS pricing arrangements.
