Delivering power bill relief to Australian households amid rising energy costs
While the government's initial promise to cut power bills by $275 by 2025 has been broken amid global energy pressures, they have responded with direct bill relief. From July 2024, households have been receiving automatic $75 quarterly credits on their electricity bills (or two $150 credits in Western Australia), totalling $300 over the year. Small businesses will receive up to $325 in relief.
The package includes additional reforms to benefit consumers, with $68.4 million allocated to initiatives including:
Improvements to rooftop solar and battery savings
Better community engagement on infrastructure projects
Enhanced consumer protections in energy markets
Simplified processes for switching to better energy deals
