The Labor Government has launched the Building Women's Careers Program to drive structural and cultural change in key male-dominated sectors, addressing Australia's high rate of industry segregation which contributes to the gender pay gap.
This $60.6 million initiative, part of the Future Made in Australia plan, will fund partnerships between industry, employers, unions, training organisations, and community groups to remove barriers for women in construction, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and digital technology.
The program will deliver $54.5 million in grants for two streams of projects: large-scale industry-led initiatives requiring at least four partners collectively employing more than 1,000 people, and smaller community-led projects involving a minimum of three partners.
By improving access to skilled and well-paid careers in these industries, the program aims to simultaneously address critical skills shortages while reducing gender segregation in the Australian workforce.
