The Albanese Government has achieved the lowest average unemployment rate in 50 years, creating over 1.1 million new jobs.
Labor's economic management has delivered unprecedented jobs growth, with employment reaching a record high of 14.6 million Australians in December 2024. While the unemployment rate sits at 4%, the participation rate has hit an equal record high of 67.1%, showing more Australians are actively seeking work than ever before.
The quality of job creation has been particularly strong, with full-time positions accounting for 67% of all jobs growth in 2024, adding 299,000 positions. Women's employment has reached record levels, with 6.96 million women now in work - up by 190,300 over the year. Notably, 84% of new women's jobs have been full-time positions.
This success has been supported by Labor's workplace reforms, which have delivered real wage growth for four consecutive quarters, the lowest gender pay gap in history, and new protections for workers including Same Job Same Pay laws and the Right to Disconnect.
"Inflation is down, wages are up, unemployment is low and more than a million jobs have been created under a Labor government," Treasurer Jim Chalmers said.
